| Charity
Challenge says "We can't promise to make all your dreams come true,
but in this case we can promise you the world! Charity Challenge
offers you the unique opportunity to make a difference - not only to
yourself, but also to thousands of worthwhile causes".
There are more than thirty
different challenges to choose from including treks, mountain bike rides,
mountain climbs, white water rafting, sailing and horse riding
expeditions. They take place in Africa, Latin America, the
Caribbean, the Middle East, Asia and Europe, and there are three different
levels of difficulty to choose from so there really is something for
everyone. |

They include trekking
on the Inca Trail, walking along the Great Wall of China, cycling in far
flung reaches of the World like Chile or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Instead of for example, running the London Marathon, CC offers people an alternative challenge to do and raise much needed funds for a charity of your choice. The Everest Base Camp Trek, which I've chosen to do, is considered "Extreme" (i.e. one of the four hardest trips CC do) because of the risks involved at high altitudes (See AMS), lack of basic amenities and the level of fitness required to complete the challenge. I've already started training now because it's certainly going to push me to the limits, but hey, that's half the fun of it. Anyone who knows me, knows I love doing mad "extreme" things! |
| How is
the expedition funded? There are two options: Option 1 - you pay the registration fee and raise the minimum sponsorship for the charity as stipulated by Charity Challenge. The charity pays the balance of your expedition costs from the minimum sponsorship. Option 2 - you pay the full cost of the expedition (which includes £100 donation to your charity. Every penny you then raise will go direct to the charity and there is no minimum sponsorship requirement. You'll be glad to know, I went for option 2 because I didn't want anyone else funding my trip and I wanted all the money I raise to go straight to ChildHope. |

| Responsible Tourism
- Charity Challenge is committed to the local community wherever they
visit and is a member of C.E.R.T. (Campaign For Enviromentally Responsible
Tourism). All non-biodegradable waste will be carried with the party back
to the place of origin. The trek will therefore not be adding to the infamous dump of
rubbish on and around Everest. In Nepal, CC support has focused on the women and children of the Sunsari and Morang regions. The projects help by organising literacy training often followed by skills training. To support the youth, they are helping strengthen and improve schools, as well as non-formal learning systems outside schools. They also train families to improve understanding of hygiene and disease, the causes of poverty and their civil rights. To find out more click here: CERT |

Every
penny you donate will help give a child hope and put a smile :-) back on their
face... Many thanks - Pete Townson |
