Most embarrassing moment (when you were playing)
It was a Sunday in April 1991. Although I had a ticket for AFC vs Scum at Wembley in the semi, I couldn't go because the aforementioned LKFC were playing in a cup final that afternoon. Having been devastated by the defeat (I managed to see the first 80 minutes) against the Scum, I then captained Loko in the final. After 35 minutes it was 0-0 against Shamrock Celtic (bitter ivals) when they played a through ball down our right. I got there first about 10 yards inside our half and 5 in from the touchline - since the ball was bobbling high off the hard pitch I thought I had better volley it back to the keeper (an Irish youth international). Knowing what my left foot volleys are like he had come to the corner of the box. I caught it perfectly. At first it looked as if it would go for a corner. Then the wind caught it and the ball drifted back towards the goal over the head of our keeper. I still thought it was going wide until I heard a massive roar from the stand (there were about 200 people there - I am still amazed none of the videos ever found there way to Danny Baker) and the ball slid into the top corner. We eventually lost 2-1 (and hit the bar in the last minute). It was far and away the worst own goal I have ever seen: like a cross between Lee Dixon against Coventry and Nayim (very similar range and trajectory to the latter in fact). Not only was that my most embarrassing moment in football, it was also the worst day of my life.
